9th March 2016 is national No Smoking Day!
South Tyneside offer a 12 week smoking cessation behavioural support programme. Currently there are over 200 advisers trained to offer the programme. This can be accessed through GP practices, Pharmacies and some Community Organisations.
First Contact Clinical offer a two day New Adviser Course, half day Refresher Course and Smoking Cessation Brief Advice.
With the support of a Stop Smoking Adviser and Nicotine Replacement medications you are 4 times more likely to quit.

Health Benefits from Quitting
24 hours – Carbon Monoxide is eliminated from the body
48 hours – There is no nicotine in the body. Ability to taste and smell is increased.
72 hours – Breathing becomes easier
3-9 months – Lung function is increased by 10%
5 years – Risk of stroke falls to about that of a non-smoker
10 years – Risk of lung cancer falls to half that of a smoker. Risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked.
